Two Special Events Next Weekend in Cathedral City
LGBT Days and Easter Kidapalooza

4th Annual Cathedral City LGBT Days
March 30 – April 1st

Cathedral City's LGBT Days, presented by Volkswagen of Palm Springs and scheduled for Easter Weekend, March 30 – April 1, will honor the LGBT community and celebrate the diversity of Cathedral City. The free weekend festival includes an opening night kickoff party, the 4th annual community LGBT Days bed race, live musical performances, outdoor dancing, food, beverages, community booths, pool parties and events at local businesses.

Cathedral City LGBT Days celebrates the lives, history, and accomplishments of the LGBT community. Gathering under the worldwide theme “Remember the Past. Create the Future,” the event highlights Cathedral City as a recipient of a perfect equality score by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.

Not your typical Pride event, here's everything you need to know about Cathedral City LGBT Days, kicking off Friday, March 30 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and continuing on Saturday, March 31 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., at Cathedral City’s Downtown Town Square Park, in front of City Hall at 68-600 East Palm Canyon Drive (HWY 111), Cathedral City, CA, 92234. Admission to the festival and parking are free.

The free opening night Kick-off Celebration, an evening of Drag, Drama and Cabaret, is hosted by RuPaul’s Drag Race alumni…the one and only Delta Work is Friday, March 30, 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Entertainment includes the Coachella Valley men’s chorus Modern Men and a cast of fabulous drag queens and/or female impersonators.

The evening’s kickoff headliner is the New York City drag legend, singer and comedian Lady Bunny.  Appropriate for Easter weekend, Lady Bunny hops on down to LGBT Days with her glitzy outfits, sky-high wigs and false eyelashes longer than Tammy Faye Bakers. Known for her oft-bawdy mix of humor, zany, Laugh-In-style joke routines and famed for her appearances on Rupaul's Drag U and as the founder of the famed Wigstock festival, Bunny will bring the house down with her over-the-top entertainment.

The host Delta Work will keep the girls in order and wow the audience with her brash and sassy approach complemented with her signature over the top seduction and vintage glamor.  A seasoned celebrity impersonator from Southern California, Delta boasts a career with credits in prime-time television, film and rock music videos as well as being featured in RuPaul’s Drag Race Show. You will also be entertained by Aurora Sexton, winner Miss Gay USofA 2016 and a nationally celebrated name in female illusion entertainment.

Also making a special appearance is the International Drag Superstar Epiphany Get Paid. The LA Wranglers and Simeon Den Theater Dance round out the opening night lineup.

Sordid Lives creator Del Shores will perform his one-man show, “Six Characters In Search Of A Play,” on Saturday, on March 31, 2018 at 7 p.m. at the Mary Pickford Theatre in Downtown Cathedral City. VIP tickets include seating in the first three rows and a meet-and-greet reception following the show are sold out. However, general audience tickets are available at www.CathedralCityLGBTDays.com. This is an official event fundraiser for Cathedral City LGBT Days.

On Saturday from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m., the festival in Town Square will include exhibitors, non-profit organizations, a beverage garden as well as food, and beverage vendors.

Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. is the unique Cathedral City Pride parade, the 4th annual LGBT Days Bed Race. Host Bella da Ball will officiate the morning’s activities that promise a little drama and suspense.  Teams of five are encouraged to sign-up now, decorate a float on wheels, step into some racing shoes or fancy pumps, and race for the coveted winner’s trophy.  Four individuals will push one person sitting on the bed from the rainbow start line on Avenida Lalo Guerrero and end at the finish line in front of City Hall. Fans and spectators will line-up and cheer on their favorite teams as they race, sashay or simply saunter by to the finish line.  This year, the bed race will have a new “sordid” ingredient – as three celebrities from the “Sordid Lives” movie and series will be our celebrity bed race riders. They include Anne Walker who played LaVonda DuPree, Kirk Geiger who played Ty Williamson, and Del Shores who wrote and directed “Sordid Lives”.  Thanks to Art Gregoire, Terry Nelson, and Kara Robinson from Windermere Homes and Estates for sponsoring the celebrity riders.

At noon on the City Hall Main Stage festival goers can enjoy free performances by the Palm Springs Gay Men’s, legendary pop, dance music diva, THEA AUSTIN formerly of SNAP! (Rhythm is a Dancer, Color of Love, Eye of the Tiger, Take on Me, Believe in it), David Hernandez, FINALIST from American Idol, and performances by Corday, Jeremiah Clark and Keisha D, Anita Treadmill, Cher-Javier and DJ Ginger Bear.  Weekend emcees include Vanity Halston, Delta Work and Bella de Ball.

A highlight of the afternoon will be Mariachi Arcoiris de Los Angeles, The world's first LGBTQ mariachi band! Representing the traditions of a rich culture of Mexico, this dynamic ensemble brings Mexican music and folklore to Cathedral City with musicians from California and Mexico.

At 7 p.m., on Saturday, March 31, head to the Mary Pickford Theatre where Del Shores will perform his one-man show, “Six Characters In Search Of A Play.”  VIP tickets include first three rows of seating and a meet-and-greet reception following the show.  Proceeds benefit LGBT Days. Festival goers can also splish-splash and soak up the sun at Western Exposure’s Palm Springs Bear Camp, a free-flowing bear event, at the CCBC Resort Hotel.  Clothing optional events and pool parties are featured all weekend with DJ Carrera, DJ Bulldog and Ted E. Roxspin.  CCBC Resort Hotel is located at 68300 Gay Resort Drive.  For the latest information visit www.westernxposure.net or click here to visit CCBC.
