Community Update

by Paul S. Wilson, Fire Chief

May 20 - 26, 2018 is
National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week

The emergency medical technicians and paramedics in the Cathedral City Fire Department are cross-trained as professional firefighters. They are the local providers of emergency medical services in the City of Cathedral City.

As a fire department (F.D.) based EMS service, you receive more rapid response, treatment, and transportation since your EMS providers are close by.

Each fire engine is staffed with three fire personnel who are state certified Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT’s) and state certified Paramedics.

Each ambulance is staffed with two fire personnel who are state certified Paramedics.

The F.D. ambulances are equipped with state of the art equipment, including; oxygen; twelve-lead heart monitors/defibrillators; continuous positive air pressure respiratory therapy equipment; intubation equipment; medications to treat a heart attack, stroke or trauma accident; electronic patient care reporting tablets, with blue tooth technology for communication with the hospital; and power gurneys to ease patient loading and unloading from the ambulance.

The firefighters, who are emergency medical technicians and paramedics, are proud to serve the City of Cathedral City residents and visitors.

If you encounter them on an emergency or see them conducting business during May 20th through 26th, please express your appreciation to the firefighters / EMS personnel during National EMS Week.
