Kids Summer Movie Series, Another Great Successful Event

In partnership with the Mary Pickford Theatre, the Cathedral City Parks and Community Events Commission wrapped up the “Kids Summer Movie Series” last Friday to the applause of all the movie goers.  The series provided free movies every Friday morning for eight weeks during the summer break from school.  The parents and children enjoyed great family-friendly animated films like Baby Boss, Lego Batman and Captain Underpants.

As the Communications and Events Manager, please join me in thanking Councilmember John Aguilar for directing a large portion of his City’s discretionary funds to support the movie series.  Additionally, the series could not have happened without the dedicated work of Parks and Community Events Commissioners Thommy Kocan and Gary Marshall and Planning Commissioner Laurie Holk as well as many community volunteers who showed up each week to greet the guests and organize the event.

It has been four years since I began my service with Cathedral City.  Over this time, the City Council, our City Commissions, City Departments have all worked together to bring great family events that connect neighbors, improve our quality of life, and generate City pride.  Thousands of residents and visitors have come to our signature events, such as the Cathedral City Hot Air Balloon Festival, Snow Fest, Taste of Jalisco Festival, and Cathedral City LGBT Days.  Thousands more have attended city or city-sponsored events such as Halloween Spooktacular, Día de los Muertos, Movies in the Park, Healing Field, Cinema Diverse, AmDocs Latino, Palm Springs International Film Festival at the Mary Pickford Theatre, Easter Kidapalooza, and Battle of the Badges Boxing Tournament.

We have been planning all summer long and have reached out to our business sponsors to bring you the best festival experiences for this upcoming season.  Every event is getting better and bringing quality entertainment for your enjoyment.  Best of all, your city council has made it their priority to continue to offer the vast majority of these events with free admission and free parking.  So, I ask you to please save these dates for some exciting events beginning in September.
