Practice Summer Safety

Never leave your child in a parked car

While it may be tempting to dash into a store for a quick errand, the temperature inside your car can rise twenty degrees or more and cause heatstroke in a child, during the time it takes for you to run in and out of the store.

Leaving a child alone in a car can lead to serious injury or death from heatstroke.

Young children are particularly at risk, as their body’s heat up three to five times faster than an adult’s.

Put a stuffed animal on your dash to remind you there is child in the car seat, so you don’t inadvertently leave a child alone in a hot vehicle.

Never leave your pet in a parked car

Don’t compromise your pet’s safety by leaving them in a parked vehicle. Not even for a minute. Not even with the car running and with the air conditioner on.

On a hot day in the desert, temperatures inside a vehicle can rapidly rise to dangerous levels.

On an 95 degree day the temperature inside a car, with the windows opened slightly, can reach 112 degrees within 10 minutes.

After 30 minutes, the temperature will reach 120 + degrees. Your pet may suffer irreversible organ damage or die.

Place an animal toy on your dash to remind you the pet is in the vehicle.
