Celebrate Cathedral City’s 35th Anniversary & Hot Air Balloon Glow

On November 16, 1981, the City of Cathedral City incorporated and became its own self-governed municipality.  Many changes have occurred over the years as the city has grown to nearly 55,000 residents and the second largest city in the Coachella Valley.

On November 18-20, 2016, we celebrate our 35th Anniversary to much fanfare and with exciting activities including a 35th Anniversary Gala Dinner and Jazz Concert, 35 Hot Air Balloon Race, 35th Anniversary Parade, LIVE musical entertainment, Nightly Balloon Glows, Tethered Balloon Rides, Sunset Wine Dinner & Balloon Glow at the Westin Hotel, Outdoor Market, Restaurant Row and Spirits Garden, Kid Zone, Car Club Displays, and the unveiling of the Lalo Guerrero bronze statue at the corner of Avenida Lalo Guerrero and George Montgomery Trail.  The late Mr. Guerrero was considered the “Father of Chicano Music” and called Cathedral City home.   If he was alive today, he would have turned 100 years old in December.

You can discover all the great activities that are planned for the celebration by going to www.DiscoverCathedralCity.com.  Tickets are available for many of the activities.  Additionally, an Open Call continues for businesses, organizations, and classic car owners who want to be part of the 35th Anniversary Parade on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.

At noon on Saturday, November 19th, three finalists will also randomly draw to win the Desert Treasure Hunt prizes on the Main Stage.  The grand prize is a 2016 Volkswagen Jetta!  You can begin playing now, if you’re not already.  Go to www.DesertTreasureHunt.com for more information.

Finally, a pre-Anniversary event called Cathedral City’s Restaurant & Art Week will commence on November 13-17, 2016.  It will feature local restaurants offering great discounts to customers and our growing number of renowned art galleries along Perez Road holding special showcases and hours.

This birthday and balloon celebration will have something for everyone!  To stay up to date on this and other amazing activities, go to www.DiscoverCathedralCity.com.
