Community Update

by Community Development Director, Pat Milos

The construction of the Cathedral City Bike Trail and first segment of the CV Link project continues to develop as planned.  The contractor, CT&T Concrete Paving, recently completed the retaining wall located on the south end of the Bike Trail near Ramon Road. Meanwhile, CT&T’s Subcontractor, PB Tenik, is currently pouring the colored concrete and embedding the decorative seeded glass finish. The seeded glass finish will give sections of the path a vibrant and reflective appearance as bikers, walkers and joggers navigate through the Bike Trail.  The furnishings for the Bike Trail are also currently in fabrication.  These amenities will allow “trail goers” to take a break and relax in the shade structures at each end of the path, equipped with benches to enjoy the natural beauty surrounding the trail. These fixtures are schedule for delivery and installation in late November. The Vista Chino water service has also been completed. These water lines will provide drinking fountains adjacent to the shade structures on the Bike Trail.

The good news is that the project is developing according to schedule, and upon completion, the City will be able to offer a “Class A” healthy recreational opportunity for its residents that is beautiful and utilitarian as well as a source of community pride.

Meanwhile, the City owns property in the Dream Homes Neighborhood adjacent to the Bike Trail known as “Lot A.”  The City is proposing that “Lot A” be developed as a future park site for the neighborhood and a resting destination for “trail goers.”  Work has already been completed with regards to surveying the land and establishing monuments and boundaries.  The Cathedral City Code Compliance Division is also working with the property owners abutting “Lot A” to clean and remove any material and vegetation on this parcel. This collaborated effort will ensure that the residents will be afforded enough time to make any arrangements necessary to move any items onto their properties. Engineering, in collaboration with Code Compliance and Public Works, will be soliciting bids to clean and grade “Lot A” in preparation for this proposed future park.

The trail and related future park are the result of several years of planning and support on behalf of the City Council, Parks and Community Events Commission, and City staff as well as input from the Community at-large. With a “ribbon cutting” for the trail portion of the project tentatively scheduled right after the first of the year, the Cathedral City Bike Trail and future CV Link will be a feather in the cap of Cathedral City and an example of what can be accomplished when we work together for the betterment of all.
