Cathedral City allows “Safe and Sane Fireworks” that are sold at locations throughout the city by non-profit organizations. From June 28 through July 4, you will see temporary fireworks sale centers pop-up in parking lots by these non-profit organizations. These fireworks have been approved as they do not go up in the air and/or explode. All “safe and sane” fireworks also display a “State of California, State Fire Marshall Registered Fireworks” seal. If they do not, they are considered illegal fireworks.
Illegal fireworks (any firework that does not carry the State Fire Marshal seal and labeled, “Safe and Sane,” explodes or goes up in the air) will now bring a hefty fine in Cathedral City to not only the person lighting the fireworks, but also the property owner or lessee that allows the fireworks to be discharged. Additionally, Cathedral City will deputize city employees, beyond police officers, to document and issue citations in a stepped-up enforcement effort to anyone who uses or is in possession of illegal fireworks.
How much will it cost you? Anyone caught using or allowing illegal fireworks to be used on their property will receive a fine of $1,000 for the first offense, $2,000 more for a subsequent offense, and an increase of $1,000 for each additional offense.
Don’t take the chance of shooting off illegal fireworks in Cathedral City or it can cost you a hefty fine! Illegal fireworks jeopardize your health and welfare as well as those around you including your neighbors, friends, and pets. Keep it Safe and Sane!
