Cathedral City Continues to Go Green

Cathedral City Continues to Go Green

Starting today and over the new three weeks, the parking lot behind City Hall will be closed in order to install a new solar panel system that will also provide covered parking for more than 100 spaces as well as covered parking for the police department. Best of all, the new solar system will produce an additional 875,000 kilowatts per year above what is currently produced by the City’s solar system located on top of the downtown parking garage. Combined, the two systems are estimated to generate 75 percent of the city’s annual electrical needs thereby further reducing the City’s carbon footprint.

During the construction, you may park along Avenida Lalo Guerrero or in the City’s parking garage for free. As the temperatures rise, covered parking in the City garage is a much cooler option. Plus, if you have a plug-in electric or hybrid vehicle, you can charge your automobile for free while you shop, dine, stay and play.

Following the next three weeks, the parking lot will reopen; however, certain sections will be closed as the crews install the actual solar panels to the steel structures.
