Cathedral City Public Arts Commission Hosts the 4th Annual Student DATA Awards – May 25th

The Cathedral City Public Arts Commission (CCPAC) will host the 4th Annual Student Digital Arts Technology Academy (DATA) Photography and Film Awards at the Mary Pickford Theater on Thursday, May 25, 2017 from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Here is a highlight clip of the nominees:

“We’re really excited about this year’s awards program,” stated CCPAC Chair Alan Carvalho. We have more entries and more participation than in previous years.”

Housed at Cathedral City High School, DATA is a California Distinguished Academy and the only approved Arts, Media and Entertainment program in the Coachella Valley. It is also an Apple Distinguished Program/California Partnership Lighthouse Academy focused on student creativity in a variety of design, visual and arts area.

Students apply to the Academy during the spring of their freshman year. If accepted, they learn with other DATA students for three academic courses and one DATA elective during their sophomore and junior years. In their senior year, DATA students are enrolled in Senior English and at least one DATA elective. This provides the students with a unique opportunity to apply their creative and technology talents to college preparatory curriculum in the core content classes.

The DATA Awards will showcase multiple short films and 20 photographs that have been accepted for the event. Winners will receive gift cards from the Public Arts Commission so that they can purchase addition equipment for their use.

Leading up to the Awards event, the photographs and videos will be on display in Cathedral City’s Cultural Arts Museum on Tuesdays from 6 pm to 9 pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 4 pm. The exhibit will run through Sunday, June 4, 2017. The Museum is located on the east end of City hall across the street from the Mary Pickford Theater.

City Hall is located at 68-700 Avenida Lalo Guerrero, Cathedral City. Free parking is available in the parking garage next to city hall.
