CCHS DATA Students Receive Awards in Photography and Video at the Fourth Annual DATA Awards Ceremony

Six Cathedral City High School students received cash awards from the Cathedral City Public Arts Commission for their outstanding work in photography and videos at the Fourth Annual DATA Awards Ceremony that was held at the Mary Pickford Theater on May 25, 2017.

Winners in the photography category included:

First Place – Pam Montenegro – Grade 12
Second Place – Paulo Granillo – Grade 11
Third Place – Joe Jimenez – Grade 10

Winners in the Video competition included:

First Place – “Phillip K. Smith III” – Sedona Cruz
Second Place – “Ask Me” – Jose Aguirre & Marcos Correa
Third Place – “Live Fully Now” – Eddie Galan

Each winner received a gift card based on their winning category:

First Place – $350
Second Place – $200
Third Place – $100

The CCHS DATA program DATA, which stands for Digital Arts Technology Academy, is a California Distinguished Academy. It is the only approved Arts, Media and Entertainment program in the Coachella Valley. This Apple Distinguished Program/California Partnership Lighthouse Academy focuses student creativity in a variety of design, visual and arts area. The Academy his housed at Cathedral City High School.

Throughout their junior and senior years, DATA students are provided a variety of opportunities to gain experience with community and industry partners through class projects, presentations, and work-based learning in the field. Cathedral City’s Public Arts Commission is appointed by the City Council and includes seven members each serving three-year terms. The Public Arts Commission advances
performing and visual art in the community. It makes recommendations to the City Council on the selection, acquisition and installation of public art paid for by developer fees; support and production of concerts, readings and other live arts performances; sponsor programs; development and use of facilities for arts projects; and cooperative ventures with other arts organizations throughout the Coachella Valley.
