Celebrate 50 Years of Earth Day

On April 22, 1970, the first official “Earth Day” was held on thousands of U.S. colleges, universities, and K-12 schools bringing together more than 20 million people to raise awareness about pollution and its effects on our environment.  Today, more than one billion people around the world will honor the holiday and determine the best practices moving forward as pollution continues its effects on our planet.

The COVID-19 pandemic has played a major role for the 50th Anniversary as many celebration will be held online by the largest organization, Earth Day Network, at www.earthday.org.  COVID-19 has also played a major role as pollution levels, especially air pollution levels, are at some of the lowest levels since Earth Day began due to worldwide Stay at Home orders.

Cathedral City wishes you a Happy Earth Day!
