Cone Zone Alert: ROAD IMPROVEMENTS FOR McCALLUM WAY AND 30TH AVENUE ARE UNDERWAY

The McCallum Way and 30th Avenue Pavement Rehabilitation Project has begun in which both streets between Landau Boulevard and Date Palm Drive and on 30th between Date Palm Drive and Da Vall Drive will be completely reconstructed. Matich Corporation, which recently completed the Vista Chino Rehabilitation Project early and on budget, has been awarded the $2,464,000 project. Funding for the project includes revenue from gas tax and Measure A funds as well as contributions from several city Assessment Districts.

The rehabilitation project includes the removal and recycling of the existing asphalt pavement, cement treating and compacting existing base material, and re-paving with 4-inches of new, hot mix asphalt.

The 30th Avenue and McCallum Way pavement rehabilitation projects are scheduled for completion this summer to avoid the local school drop-off and pick-up traffic congestion. This is especially important for the portion of 30th Avenue between Date Palm Drive and Da Vall Drive adjacent to James Workman Middle School, which has its first day of class instruction on August 9, 2017. Matich Corporation has scheduled completion of this section of work on 30th between Date Palm Drive and Da Vall Drive for no later than August 8th.

During construction, two lanes of traffic on each street will remain open, with an occasional one lane traffic controlled by flagmen. Additionally, traffic will be routed to unpaved lanes for brief periods to expedite the construction schedule. All rehabilitation work will occur between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. (Mondays thru Fridays, excluding holidays) and will be completed by September 18, 2017.

Residents adjacent to the two roadways will experience occasional noise and minor vibrations from construction equipment. Matich Corporation will implement dust control and storm water control plans. Access to driveways and side streets will be maintained except for a brief time when the new pavement is being placed.
