CATHEDRAL CITY, CA [March 21, 2019] Cathedral Canyon Drive at Whitewater River Wash has reopened to thru traffic a little before 7:00 a.m. this morning. However, the road is reduced to one lane in each direction as you pass through the wash along with slower speed limits for safety. A new bridge is planned for this wash area with construction slated to begin in December.
Cathedral Canyon Drive at Whitewater River Wash had been closed since the Valentine’s Day Flood as record rainfall turned the ordinarily dry riverbed into a raging river. Consequently, the flood severely damaged Cathedral Canyon Drive through the wash. Damage was estimated at $1.2 million.
