Gas Tax Dollars Set to Make Significant Road Improvements to Dinah Shore Drive and the Date Palm Drive / Dinah Shore Intersection in Cathedral City

Work begins on Monday, July 9, 2018 through Mid-October – traffic delays expected

CATHEDRAL CITY, CA [July 2, 2018] Starting on Monday, July 9, 2018, the All American Asphalt Company and the City of Cathedral City will begin a $2.2 million road construction project to fully reconstruct the pavement on Dinah Shore Drive from the Dinah Shore Bridge all the way east to the intersection of Dinah Shore Drive and Date Palm Drive.  The road construction project will also include the reconstruction and pavement improvements to the intersection of Date Palm Drive and Dinah Shore Drive.  The intersection improvements will extend out 200 feet in each direction of traffic, affecting Date Palm Drive traffic as well as Dinah Shore Drive traffic.  The road improvement project is considered an “expedited project” slated to be completed by mid-October and before seasonal residents return to the Coachella Valley.

Funding for the $2.2 million road improvement project comes from the newly passed Senate Bill 1 (SB1) “Gas Tax,” in addition to previous “gas tax” dollars, Measure A funds and Assessment District 86-1 monies.  A majority of the project funding comes from revenue generated by the gas tax legislation.  Without it, this road improvement project would have been deferred for many years and the condition of the road and intersection would continue to deteriorate.

Traffic delays can be expected at the intersection of Date Palm Drive and Dinah Shore Drive and on Dinah Shore Drive from the intersection all the way west to the Dinah Shore Bridge.  In addition, left turns at the intersection of Date Palm Drive and Dinah Shore Drive will be closed at various times and detours will be implemented.  Dinah Shore Drive will remain open at all times, but traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction throughout the project timeline.

Alternative routes:

To avoid construction on Dinah Shore Drive, motorists can utilize Ramon Road or East Palm Canyon Drive (HWY 111) for east and westbound destinations.  Motorists can utilize Cathedral Canyon Drive instead of Date Palm Drive to avoid the intersection construction at Date Palm Drive and Dinah Shore Drive.
