Mayor Pro Tem Greg Pettis Appointed to the National League of Cities Human Development Committee

Cathedral City’s Mayor Pro Tem Greg Pettis has been appointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) 2017 Human Development (HD) federal advocacy committee. This committee has the lead responsibility for developing NLC federal policy positions on issues involving social services, children and learning, poverty and income support, employment and workforce development, equal opportunity, Social Security and seniors, individuals with disabilities, public health care, mental health parity and immigration reform. The appointment was announced by NLC President Matt Zone, councilmember, Cleveland.

“It is a great honor to be appointed to such a prestigious committee that works on social and equitable issues facing those most-in-need among our collective communities,” stated Pettis. “Having served for more than 20 years on the city council of Cathedral City, the committee understands the importance of sending experienced advocates to Washington D.C. as we begin to discuss these issues with a new administration.”

As a member of the committee, Cathedral City’s Mayor pro Tem Greg Pettis will play a key role in shaping NLC’s policy positions and advocate on behalf of America’s cities and towns before Congress, with the new administration and at home.

The leadership of this year’s committee will consist of Chair Gil Ziffer, city commissioner, Tallahassee, Florida, and Vice Chairs Zack Reed, councilmember, Cleveland, and Angelia Williams, councilmember, Jackson, North Carolina.
