Special “City Hall at Your Corner” – Tuesday, July 18th

A special “City Hall at Your Corner” will take place on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 from 5 pm to 6 pm in the Study Session Room located on the first floor of City Hall, 68-700 Avenida Lalo Guerrero, to discuss the Electoral District process as the City transitions from “at-large” to “by-district” elections for members of the City Council starting with the November 2018 general election.

You will have an opportunity to discuss this topic or any other topic with Mayor Pro Tem Greg Pettis and Councilmember Shelley Kaplan.

On March 8, 2017 the City Council approved a Resolution initiating procedures for establishing and implementing by-district elections for City Council Members, which is consistent with Elections Code section 10010. The City Council also approved a Resolution specifying the criteria to guide the establishment of electoral districts which will be followed in drawing proposed district lines. These criteria require the districts to be roughly equal in population, and drawn in a manner that does not result in a denial or abridgment of the right of any citizen to vote on account of race or color.

“City Hall at Your Corner” is scheduled once a month at various locations throughout the City and at different times of the day to make it accessible to most schedules and close proximity to all residents. It is your opportunity to share your ideas, let the council know your concerns, and hear the latest news. Best of all, the discussion is free!
