The Crossings Ribbon Cutting and Downtown Amphitheater Groundbreaking Ceremonies Held Today

It was another busy day for the City Council as they participated in two ceremonies held in honor of two new developments.  First, was the Ribbon Cutting and Hard Hat Celebration of “The Crossings” hotel and retail development in the newly annexed area of Cathedral City.  This 9-acre, freeway-oriented development is located at southeast corner of Bob Hope Drive and Varner Road.  Currently opened is the new Starbucks and Taco Bell restaurants.  Soon-to-open stores currently under construction are McDonald’s, Arco AM PM Fueling Center and a 98-room Best Western Plus hotel.

The hotel and retail development began construction earlier this year and is expected to be completed in 2019.

Another milestone reached in the City today was the third of four anchors planned to turn our downtown into an Arts and Entertainment District.  The City Council and the Parks and Community Events Commission held a groundbreaking ceremony for the 2.5 acre downtown amphitheater park adjacent to the parking garage at the corner of Avenida Lalo Guerrero and Cathedral Canyon Drive.  This park will feature a permanent outdoor stage, restrooms, concession stand, children’s play area, and walking paths.  With a seating capacity exceeding 2,900 people, this amphitheater park will be an ideal location for our city’s festivals, art shows, food truck events, concerts, local theater productions, and much more.  Construction will be in full force starting in January and completion of the park is expected in the fall of 2019.
