Capital Improvement Program and Parks Improvements Update
|
It is that time of year again for an update on the Engineering and Public Works Maintenance Divisions projects. I will provide progress information on both Public Works Maintenance’s 5-year Parks Improvement Program Plan and Engineering’s 5-year Capital Improvement Program (CIP).

The Parks Improvement Program consists of 29 projects from 4 different funding sources.
|
The estimated expenditure for completing the program in 5 years is $5,470,000. The following are city staff’s progress in chipping away to complete the overall Program.

Parks Projects Completed Since October 2023
|
- Century Park.
- Renovation of the tennis courts
- Installation of shade structure, playground equipment, and playground soft surfacing.
- Panorama Park.
- Renovation of the tennis courts.
- Extension of basketball court from half court to full court.
- Installation of a shade structure and tot lot playground soft surfacing
- Ocotillo Park.
- Replaced the tot lot playground soft surfacing.
- Replaced two of the adult outdoor fitness equipment machines.
- Dennis Keat Soccer Park.
- Replaced 7 of the adult outdoor fitness equipment machines.

The CIP consists of 47 projects over a 5-year period. The estimated expenditure for completing this program in 5 years is $58,000,000. The following are city staff’s progress in chipping away to complete the CIP.

- Via De Anza Street Rehabilitation Phase II between Dinah Shore Drive and Olancha Road.
- Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funded.
- Cost: $610,700.
- East Palm Canyon Drive Rehabilitation from Perez Road to Auto Center Drive.
- Measure A and City General Funds funded.
- Cost: $192,000.
- Da Vall Drive from Ramon Road to City Limits.
- Measure A funded.
- Cost: $369,300.
- San Eljay Avenue from McCallum Way to Ramon Road.
- Assessment District (AD) funded.
- Cost: $378,200.
- East Palm Canyon Bike Lanes from West City Limits to Cathedral Canyon Drive.
- Active Transportation Program (ATP) funded.
- Cost: $237,840.
- Date Palm Drive from Ramon Road to Dinah Shore Drive Pavement Rehabilitation and Date Palm Drive at 30th Avenue Intersection Rehabilitation.
- Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians (ACBCI) and Cal Recycle Grant funded.
- Cost: $5,070,000.

- Senate Bill 1 (SB-1) funded.
- Contract award amount: $1,175,200.
- Pedestrian Crossing on Ramon Road at Candlewood Drive.
- Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) 10 and Measure A funded.
- Contract award amount: $1,340,000.
- Cathedral Canyon Sidewalk and Multipurpose Trail between Dinah Shore Drive and the Ofelia Bringas Memorial Bridge and the Date Palm Drive East Side Widening from the Date Palm Drive Bridge to East Palm Canyon.
- ATP, Senate Bill 821 (SB-821) and Measure A funded.
- Contract award amount: $4,639,000.
- Via De Anza Street Rehabilitation Phase III between Olancha Road and Ortega Road.
- CDBG funded.
- Contract award amount: $668,150.
- Panorama Neighborhood Rubberized Emulsion Aggregate Slurry (REAS).

- Contract award amount: $133,000.
- Victoria Drive Neighborhood REAS.
