Happy New Year, Cathedral City!

As we welcome 2025, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible journey we’ve shared over the past year. Cathedral City continues to thrive, thanks to the hard work, creativity, dedication and collaboration of our staff, residents, local organizations, and city leaders.

This past year, we celebrated milestones that strengthened our sense of community and enhanced our quality of life. Improving customer service through the automation of permitting, inspections, and licensing was a key City Council goal, furthering our efforts to ensure development in the city is facilitative, predictable, and streamlined. The City’s International Hot Air Balloon Festival shined for its 10th anniversary, bringing the largest crowds to date and showcasing multi-platinum-selling singer/songwriter LeAnn Rimes as the Saturday night headliner. The Public Arts and Parks and Community Events Commissions played pivotal roles in 2024, facilitating numerous community programs that brought residents together, celebrated creativity, and enhanced our shared spaces such as the Ocotillo Bench Painting Project, Yoga in the Amphitheater, Quarterly Art Exhibits, and Howl-O-Ween dog costume contest to name a few.

The overwhelming support for Measure W will be the catalyst for change in 2025, increasing local recreational opportunities through the City’s annexation into the Desert Recreation District, enhancing emergency medical services with the deployment of an additional ambulance, additional investment in improving neighborhood streets, and beginning the planning for a future community center. The new year will also see the opening of Esperanza Park, the City’s newest park.

But as we celebrate these accomplishments, we also recognize that Cathedral City is growing and evolving. We’re maturing in our processes, programs, and the way we serve our community. As we move forward into 2025, we’re embracing this new year with energy, curiosity, and a drive to continue to serve better. We’re continuing to refine how we operate and ensuring that our city’s growth is sustainable and thoughtful.

This is an exciting time for Cathedral City, and the future holds even greater promise. Together, we will continue to build on our successes, tackle new challenges, and nurture the vibrant, inclusive, and thriving community we all call home.

On behalf of City Manager Charlie McClendon, the City Council and staff, we wish you and your loved ones a joyful, healthy, and prosperous 2025. Here’s to another year of progress!
