The Cathedral City Fire Department has sent a crew to Los Angeles County to assist with the devasting wildfires. The damage and loss suffered has been immense, so far burning more than 28,000 acres and destroying more than 6,000 homes, businesses, and other buildings.
The local CCFD crew of 5, along with other state resources, are helping contain the flames and protect communities from further destruction.
Cathedral City Fire Chief Michael Contreras recently explained to KESQ News Channel 3 that the mutual aid system allows departments to pool resources, providing much-needed manpower and equipment during times of need.
"Our crews will look to relieve them either tonight (Wednesday night) or in the morning (Thursday), depending on the spread of the fire," Chief Contreras said. "Then at that point, they'll decide, are they going on 12-hour shifts or 24-hour shifts and getting on that."
To everyone in Southern California impacted by these devastating wildfires – including firefighters and first responders, healthcare workers, construction crews, and utility workers – we're holding you in our thoughts.
