Issue 513
Dear Cathedral City Residents,

This month marks an extraordinary milestone in our community's history, and I'm thrilled to invite you to join us for a very special celebration that honors the foundation of our beloved city.

Celebrating 100 Years: Cathedral City's First Land Marker Anniversary
On Saturday, August 30th from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, we'll gather at the Mary Pickford Theatre in Downtown Cathedral City to commemorate the 100th anniversary of our city's first designated land marker and map. This historic moment in 1925 marked the beginning of the community we call home today.

What Makes This Event Special
We've crafted an afternoon that celebrates both our heritage and our connection to entertainment history. The event opens with an exclusive premiere of a short documentary film produced by our talented city staff, chronicling Cathedral City's remarkable transformation from desert landscape to the vibrant community we know and love. Following our historical journey, we'll screen the 1963 classic "Palm Springs Weekend" – and here's the exciting part: this film was actually shot right here in Cathedral City! The Desert Palms Inn served as a key filming location, making our city part of Hollywood history decades ago.

A Community Celebration
This free event reflects the spirit of community collaboration that has defined Cathedral City for a century. Special recognition goes to Cynthia Schultz, Associate Planner, for her tireless work bringing this project to life, along with the dedicated Cathedral City Historic Preservation Committee. Their efforts, combined with generous support from our local business partner, Canyon Print & Signs, have made this celebration possible.

Every attendee will receive exclusive 100th anniversary commemorative items as a lasting memento of this historic milestone. Light refreshments will be provided, and the first 50 attendees will receive complimentary water and popcorn – perfect for enjoying our classic film screening! We encourage residents of all ages to join us for this unique opportunity to connect with our shared history.

Mark Your Calendars
· Date: Saturday, August 30th

Whether you're a longtime resident who has witnessed decades of our city's growth, or you're new to Cathedral City and eager to learn about your community's roots, this celebration offers something meaningful for everyone.

As we look back on 100 years of progress, from that first land marker designation to the thriving, diverse community we are today, we're reminded that Cathedral City's greatest asset has always been its people – residents like you who make this place special.
I hope to see you there as we honor our past and celebrate the foundation that continues to support our bright future.
