Three Upcoming Events for Your Entertainment
Cathedral City offers three upcoming events that will entertain you as the summer heat begins. They include the Battle of the Badges Boxing Tournament, Movies in the Park, and the Kids Summer Film Series at the Mary Pickford Theatre.
First, get your tickets now for an electrifying evening at the annual “Battle of the Badges Boxing Tournament” on Saturday, May 12, 2018 from 5 pm to 10 pm. Certified by USA Boxing, this amateur boxing tournament takes place at the Festival Lawn in Downtown Cathedral City and invites regional police officers and firefighters to battle it out in the main ring for the glory of the sport. You will enjoy local street cuisine, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, and the ability to root for your favorite local fighter. For tickets or to reserve your own table, contact Cathedral City Police Officer and organizer Jesus Gonzalez at (760) 335-8895. Don’t get “caught cold” and miss this event!
Second, come to the last showing of “Movies in the Park” for the 2017-18 Season featuring the classic Walt Disney’s “Mary Poppins” on Saturday, May 19 starting at 8:30 pm at the Festival Lawn, 68-600 East Palm Canyons Drive in Downtown Cathedral City. Gather the entire family, blankets and/or chairs for this free event hosted by the Cathedral City Evening Rotary and sponsored by the City of Cathedral City. You are welcome to bring snacks or non-alcoholic drinks. You may also purchase concessions from the nearby Mary Pickford Theatre. It’s great Family FUN!
Third, how would you like to enjoy a free movie every Friday this summer inside the cool Mary Pickford Theatre? Thanks to the Cathedral City Parks and Community Events Commission, the City Council as well as a partnership with D’Place Entertainment, you can bring the little ones to the Kids Summer Film Series for a free dedicated and scheduled movie every Friday morning at 10:00 am starting June 15 through August 3. Admission for both kids and adults are free. Kids must be accompanied by an adult. Each week will offer a different dedicated movie for the series. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Tickets will be available one week prior to the weekly movie at the front lobby of City Hall and at the Cathedral City Public Library during normal business hours. The movie list will be announced soon at www.DiscoverCathedralCity.com. The Kids Summer Film Series is a terrific way to beat the summer heat by watching a movie on the big screen!
Finally, I also want to take a moment to thank the thousands of community members who greeted our 2017-18 Special Events Season with much fanfare. From the start with the new Tejano Music Festival, you also showed your enthusiastic support for the annual Halloween Spooktacular, Healing Field, the Cathedral City Hot Air Balloon Festival, SnowFest, Taste of Jalisco, the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic (NCAA – Division 1 Softball Tournament), Cathedral City LGBT Days and Easter Kidapalooza. I am happy to report that all of these events will return for the 2018-19 Special Events Season. Later this summer, I will provide you with an update in our weekly newsletter as we finalize the exciting details to each.
In the meantime, stay cool and enjoy these summer events!
