Summer Heat Safety
Your Cathedral City Fire Department firefighters wish you an enjoyable and safe summer.
Protect yourself from dehydration
• Hydrate early and throughout the day. Don’t wait until you are thirsty. Drink water or sports drinks frequently to replenish your body fluids and restore your electrolytes.
• Use a wide-brimmed shade hat.
• Wear sunscreen - SPF 15 + and UV protective eyewear.
• Conduct yard work, shopping or recreational activities (golf, hiking or tennis) during the coolest part of the day.
• Cool down, if you get overheated (cooling your core temperature is critical).
• Get into the shade or into an air-conditioned area; use wet towels to cool the skin; set under a fan, if possible, (the evaporative effect will cool you quicker), and drink cold water.
• If you have dry skin, are not sweating, feel light-headed or dizzy, are confused and have a dry mouth or have an increased heart rate and labored breathing, call 9-1-1 for medical assistance.
