Amazing Year of Special Events in Cathedral City
It has been an amazing year for special events in Cathedral City that offered something for everyone. Since July 1, 2015, the City has provided 32 unique events that it created, co-produced, or significantly sponsored offering 120 days of activities including our three major festivals - Taste of Jalisco (the celebration of our sister city, Tequila, Jalisco (Mexico)), Cathedral City Hot Air Balloon Festival, and Cathedral City LGBT Days. This year also offered other large events such as the Health Fair & Glo Run, 5th Annual Cathedral City Cove Historic Homes and Artists’ Tour, Healing Field, Movies in the Park, C.O.D. Street Fair, Seasonal Lights, and Dia de los Muertos. Residents also enjoyed smaller events like the exclusive sneak preview of CBS Television show “SuperGirl,” Cathedral City Spooktacular on Perez Road, Throwback Thursdays with Jersey Shore, Cuisine & Art Tuesdays, State of the City, City Hall at Your Corner, Shorts Showcase, and the Spay & Neuter Clinic for our family pets.
These events could only happen through the support of its residents who attended and those who volunteered their time, services, expertise, and labor to help create, plan and implement. I personally thank the planning committee members of the City’s three major festivals who joined me in meetings, often more than a year in advance, to make them so successful, as well as, the City’s Park and Community Events Commission for their invaluable involvement.
Not only does Special Events require the involvement of its residents, it also takes the support of our local businesses. Thanks to the City’s sponsorship specialist Eric Davis and graphic designer and webmaster Kevin Lockwood who assisted me this year, more than 90 Valley businesses were involved in our festivals and events. They included our auto dealers, art galleries, beverage distributors, financial companies, health and fitness providers, hotels and resorts, media organizations, movie theatres, real estate companies, retailers, resellers, restaurants, and utility service providers. Without their support, many of these special events could not have been possible financially or offered the quality of activities desired.
Work is already underway to take Cathedral City’s Special Events to new heights, offer more choices, increase attendance, and drive traffic to our local businesses in order to foster economic development. Over the summer, please check www.DiscoverCathedralCity.com for announcements on exciting activities and upcoming events such as Cuisine & Art Tuesdays in July, the new FallFest in late October, Cathedral City’s 35th Anniversary Celebration and Hot Air Balloon Festival in November, Seasonal Lights in December, Taste of Jalisco Festival in February 2017, and Cathedral City LGBT Days in March 2017.
It’s an exciting time to be in Cathedral City and I hope you agree that our special events emulate the pride of the residents who call this wonderful city, home.
