 Post-Holiday and Winter Safety Tips

Protect yourself and your loved ones by observing these seasonal precautions:

Live Christmas Tree Disposal

It is time to dispose of the live Christmas tree in your home or business

The dried needles of cut trees or cut greens can pose an extreme fire risk.

A dried-out Christmas tree fire, on the interior of your home or business, could prove fatal to the occupants.

Safely dispose of the tree when it begins dropping needles. Dried-out trees are flammable and should not be left inside the home or garage and never placed outside against the house.

Space Heater Safety

Never place a space heater next to combustibles!

Space heaters are most often involved in home heating equipment fires.  Most fire deaths, caused by home heating equipment, are attributed to space heaters.

Decrease the risk of a heating fire in your home by:

• Keeping or maintaining a three-foot space between all heating equipment and anything that can burn.

• Turning-off your portable space heater(s) every time you leave the room and before going to bed.

• Regularly inspecting and maintaining your space heater(s)

Make sure your home is equipped with working smoke detectors and fire extinguishers.
