“All Fireworks are Prohibited”

The Cathedral City Fire Department wants you and your family to responsibly celebrate the Fourth of July and this year, that means:

All FIREWORKS ARE PROHIBITED in Cathedral City. Any person possessing, discharging or allowing the discharge of any fireworks is subject to a $1,000. fine.

This is the first year that Cathedral City has prohibited all fireworks including “Safe and Sane”. Fireworks are dangerous, cause unintended injuries and fires, and are very upsetting to pets.

The Fire Department and Police Department have been confiscating fireworks and making arrests. Please do not purchase or ignite any fireworks in the city.

These are just some of the fireworks that have been confiscated by the Police Department

A public education campaign to notify residents and visitors of this new local code, three billboard ads have been erected and 20 posters have been installed in Sunline Bus Shelters.

Get the latest on Coronavirus Disease 2019

Protecting your family during this COVID-19 pandemic is the highest priority. However, it continues to spread among all age groups. On June 1st, Cathedral City had 165 confirmed coronavirus cases, and by June 30, 618 confirmed cases – a 275 percent increase!

COVID-19 spreads through aerosolized water droplets released when an infected person speaks, sings, coughs and/or sneezes and those droplets are breathed in by others who become infected. It is also spread by touching infected surfaces and smartphones and then you or the smartphone touch your face.

COVID-19 symptoms include dry cough, fever, fatigue, difficulty breathing and more. A small percentage of COVID-19 patients develop pneumonia, which can be fatal.

Governor Extends Eviction Restrictions for Renters Due to COVID-19

SACRAMENTO — Governor Gavin Newsom issued an executive order extending authorization for local governments to halt evictions for renters impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, through September 30. Bars Without Meal Services Must Close Starting June 30

The Riverside County Health Officer, as directed by the California Department of Public Health, has released an order closing all bars without meal service, effective Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at 2:01 am. Brewpubs, breweries, bars, and pubs, shall close until those establishments are allowed to resume operation per state guidance and local permission, unless they are offering sit-down, dine-in meals. …Read more.

Cathedral City Postpones Special Events Until Further Notice

On March 19, 2020, Governor Newsom signed an Executive Order (PDF) and Public Health Order (PDF) directed all Californians to stay home except to go to an essential job or to shop for essential needs.

The City of Cathedral City will suspend all special events until further notice.
