Show Your City Pride for the 35th Anniversary Celebration and Balloon Festival
Several neighborhoods within Cathedral City date back to as early as the 1900s, but Cathedral City did not become an incorporated city until 1981. This November, we celebrate our City’s 35th Anniversary with a special event called, “Cathedral City’s 35th Anniversary Celebration and Balloon Festival.”
The 35th Anniversary Celebration and Balloon Festival will offer a special Anniversary Gala Dinner, a 35-Hot Air Balloon Glow to Music, 35th Anniversary Parade down East Palm Canyon Drive, Kid Zone, Art Show by West Coast Artists, Restaurant Row featuring local cuisine, Car Displays, Outdoor Market, and LIVE Music. Our Public Arts Commission and the Cathedral City Historical Society will showcase a special anniversary exhibit at the new Cathedral City Art Gallery adjacent to City Hall. We will also celebrate the 100th Birthday of the late Lalo Guerrero, the “Father of Chicano Music” and longtime resident of Cathedral City for which our City Hall’s address holds his namesake. You will hear jazz, Chicano, mariachis, and local rock music.
Residents will have several opportunities to show their City pride by participating in the parade, watching hot air balloons launch and race across the Valley, taking a tethered hot air balloon ride, enjoying our local cuisine, and entering into the “Desert Treasure Hunt” with an opportunity to win a 2016 Volkswagen Jetta among other great prizes.
Many of the event details are still being formulated, but you can keep up with the latest information regarding the 35th Anniversary as well as many others including the new FallFest, Diá de los Muertos, Halloween Spooktacular, Healing Field, Santa & Seasonal Lights, Taste of Jalisco, Cathedral City Cove Artists and Homes Tour, Cathedral City LGBT Days, Easter Kidapalooza, and Health Fair & Glo Run by going to www.DiscoverCathedralCity.com.
