Best Defense to the COVID-19 Delta Variant Is to Get Vaccinated

The Delta variant of the COVID-19 virus is spreading throughout the world and here in Riverside County. It is at least twice as transmissible as the original coronavirus, meaning if a person who was infected with the original virus would infect 1 or 2 other people, a person who is infected with Delta variant can infect 3 or 4 more people. It is the dominant strain of the coronavirus in the United States.

According to studies from the United Kingdom, those who were infected by the Delta Variant were twice as likely to be hospitalized than those infected with novel coronavirus when the pandemic began.

Getting vaccinated against the coronavirus is the best defense. Studies show that the vaccine significantly reduces your chances or contracting the coronavirus, being hospitalized, or worse, death. According to a recent White House COVID-19 briefing, new data suggests that 99.5% of all COVID-19 mortalities occurring in the United States are from people who have not been vaccinated.

The rush and long wait times for vaccination appointments are over. It is now very easy, quick, and free of charge to get vaccinated at your local pharmacy, health clinics, and through locations provided by the Riverside County Department of Public Health. Anyone 12 years of age or older are now permitted to get vaccinated. To schedule a vaccination appointment, go to: https://www.rivcoph.org/COVID-19-Vaccine or call your primary care physician or medical provider.

Let’s all get vaccinated and stop the spread of this deadly disease.
