Desert Community Energy Coming to Cathedral City

The City of Cathedral City is teaming up with Palm Springs and Palm Desert to provide their residents and businesses a choice for more affordable, cleaner electricity from a local provider—Desert Community Energy. DCE is a community-based, locally controlled power supply program that will work with Southern California Edison to bring you electricity from renewable, carbon-free sources at competitive prices. Revenues from DCE will be reinvested into our own communities, creating jobs and more local renewable resources while helping reduce our carbon footprint.

Starting in August 2018, all electricity accounts will be automatically transferred to our rate-saving “Desert Saver” service—with more renewable and carbon-free energy content than SCE—at a 3% savings. The transition will be completely seamless to you and your service will not be interrupted. And you don’t need to do a thing—you’ll be automatically included in this money-saving program. If you want to make a bigger positive impact on our environment, you can choose to opt up to our Carbon Free service, which is offered at the same rate that you pay SCE now. You can also opt out and stay with SCE’s bundled service with a single click or call.

These cities launched DCE because they wanted to provide a local choice for cleaner, more affordable electricity. Programs similar to this have been working throughout the state for years, giving customers rate savings while making a positive impact on our environment. Edison will continue to deliver, maintain and service your electricity. And you’ll still get a single monthly bill from them, which will include DCE’s charge for electricity generation.
