SUMMARY:9 Cities Challenge
DESCRIPTION:Save a Life by Donating Blood in Cathedral City on Thursday\, Aug. 10\, 2023 \nJoin Cathedral City for a special blood drive supporting LifeStream’s 9 Cities Blood Drive Challenge from 4-9 p.m. on Thursday\, Aug. 10\, 2023! Appointments and check-in will be setup in the Study Session Room located on the first floor of City Hall. Coachella Valley communities are going head-to-head to collect the most LifeStream blood donations to assist local hospital patients and save lives. \n\n\nLifeStream Blood Bank’s 11th annual ‘9 Cities Challenge’ officially began Saturday\, July 1\, and runs until Thursday\, Aug. 31. The nine participating cities for the friendly competition to see which city can generate the most blood donations are: Palm Springs\, Palm Desert\, Desert Hot Springs\, Indio\, La Quinta\, Rancho Mirage\, Coachella\, Indian Wells\, and Cathedral City. \n“The 9 Cities Challenge is one of our favorite events of the year\,” said Dr. Rick Axelrod\, LifeStream president/CEO & medical director. “Blood donors come out to support their cities and local patients in need. Every year\, it’s a showcase of dedication to the health of our community and great fun for everyone involved. Summer is always one of the hardest seasons for blood collection\, so we hope to hit our 1\,500-pint collection goal this year. Every blood donation makes an impact. Just one pint can save three lives. If we hit our collection goal\, not only will it be a record-breaking number for the 9 Cities Challenge\, but 1\,500 pints will save over 4\,500 lives.” \nThis year\, every donor will receive an exclusive 9 Cities Challenge bucket hat\, while supplies last. The overall winner of the competition will be the city with the most pints collected from July 1 to Aug. 31. There are several blood drive events happening here in Cathedral City (listed below). To schedule an appointment\, view the participating drives\, a live ranking board\, and bucket hat design\, visit www.lstream.org/9cities. \nCathedral City’s Dates\, Locations\, and Times: \n\nMonday\, August 6\, Stater Bros\, 69255 Ramon Rd\, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm \nThursday\, August 10\, City of Cathedral City\, 68-700 Avenida Lalo Guerrero\, 4:00 pm – 9:00 pm\nWednesday\, August 26\, Cathedral City Branch Library\, 33520 Date Palm Dr\, 11:00 am – 4:00 pm\n\n\n\nLifeStream is a nonprofit\, local\, comprehensive blood bank that provides blood products and services to more than 80 Southern California hospitals. Sunday evening’s performance will feature the women’s championship match of Keyra vs. Barones\, plus Solar\, Solar Jr\, Damian 666\, Bestia 666\, and White Tiger\, among others. Discounted presale tickets for the entertaining performances are available through November 20. \n“The Taste of Jalisco is one of our city’s signature events which we look forward to each year\,” said Cathedral City Mayor Rita Lamb. “It’s the perfect opportunity for people of all ages to come enjoy a fun-filled weekend and celebrate the connection with our sister city\, Tequila\, Jalisco. We also want to thank presenting sponsor Agua Caliente Casinos for their involvement and continued community support.” \nThe Sister City relationship was first established in 1996 when the two cities entered into a formal Sister Cities agreement. Since then\, exchanges between the Cities included art\, culture\, governmental best practices\, youth-focused educational opportunities\, donation of firefighting equipment\, and firefighter training\, among others. \nAdmission to the festival is pre-sale $4 per person – available online and $6 at the door (children under 5 free). Carnival rides\, wrestling show\, food\, and drink are additional fees. “Legends of Lucha Libre” tickets start at $16 pre-sale and are available at tasteofjalisco.com. VIP tickets which include a meet and greet\, and other benefits are also available. \nEvent hours are Friday from 5 to 11 p.m.\, Saturday noon to 11 p.m.\, and Sunday noon to 9 p.m. Festivities take place in downtown Cathedral City\, at 68600 East Palm Canyon Drive.
