Doors open at 10:30 a.m. The film series offers free admission to see a different movie geared towards kids each Friday morning at the Mary Pickford Theatre in Downtown Cathedral City. \nThe Cathedral City Parks and Community Events Commission will be offering free water and a small popcorn for the first 100 kids at each event during the 8-week period. The cost for this participation is $800 from the FY 2023-2024 PACE Small Events Budget\, which was approved by the City Council at the regular meeting on Wednesday\, April 24\, 2024. \n200 free books will be available at every movie donated by the Read With Me Volunteer Programs. A book will also be read by the Cathedral City Library before every movie. \nSeating is limited and residents can pick up the free passes at the door inside the Mary Pickford Theatre. \nYou may still attempt to go to the film series without a Priority Line Pass\, but you will be placed in a standby line. Taped interviews with Linda Ronstadt\, Paul Rodriguez\, Edward James Olmos\, Ry Cooder\, UFW co-founder Dolores Huerta\, Cheech Marin and others\, will describe the influence and impact of Lalo’s music from a personal and professional point of view. \nTaped re-enactments and historic news footage illustrate the times he lived and the music he wrote.  Lalo\, himself\, tells his story as no one else can – with insight and humor.  Rare photographs from the Guerrero Family Trust and clips of both television and live performances complete the tapestry. \n“Lalo is the first great Chicano musical artist\, historian and social conscience of our community.” – Linda Ronstadt \nA gift. A historian. A friend. Lalo Guerrero gave us a voice – para todos los Chicanos – that we never had before.
