This annual celebration honors the 27-year sister city relationship between Cathedral City and Tequila\, Jalisco (Mexico) through culture\, cuisine\, music\, and fashion. \nThe weekend includes a family-friendly carnival which has doubled in size from previous years\, artisan craft vendor market\, tequila tastings with a tequila tasting competition\, plus authentic Mexican cuisine and a Sunday car show. Daily entertainment at the Jalisco Community Stage will feature local and regional musical groups and acts celebrating Mexican art and culture. \nHeadlining this year’s festival is a live performance of the Legends of Lucha Libre Mexicana at 6 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday nights. Lucha Libre has played an important role in Mexican culture since the late 1950s. The sport became famous mainly due to its masked wrestlers\, who incorporated their own family traditions\, beliefs\, and fears into the design of their masks\, transforming an ordinary person into a fearless character. \nSaturday’s wrestling matches feature Champion Tinieblas Jr. with Alushe along with PWR tag team champions Lucha Solos: Galeno Del Mal\, Super Astro Jr.\, Rey Leon\, Fatal\, and many more. Sunday evening’s performance will feature the women’s championship match of Keyra vs. Barones\, plus Solar\, Solar Jr\, Damian 666\, Bestia 666\, and White Tiger\, among others. Discounted presale tickets for the entertaining performances are available through November 20. \n“The Taste of Jalisco is one of our city’s signature events which we look forward to each year\,” said Cathedral City Mayor Rita Lamb. “It’s the perfect opportunity for people of all ages to come enjoy a fun-filled weekend and celebrate the connection with our sister city\, Tequila\, Jalisco. So\, we are putting on a Paint Party for Saturday\, March 2\, 2024\, starting at 9 a.m. Wear old clothes\, a pillow or knee pads to kneel on\, and old shoes. \nWe have the paint\, paintbrushes and equipment\, and delicious snacks and drinks! Come join your neighbors and friends. It’s really a party and lots of fun! \nLet us know if you are coming so we can make sure to have enough equipment\, and more importantly\, delicious snacks (bagels\, donuts\, and more). DESCRIPTION:As California’s first Pride event of the year\, the 8th annual Cathedral City LGBT Days presented by Agua Caliente Casinos again brings together numerous LGBTQ+ celebrities\, artists\, performers\, media\, community leaders\, Coachella Valley residents and visitors for an unforgettable weekend of live entertainment\, community engagement and fun activities from March 8th-10th\, 2024. \nFriday March 8th features the official Pride flag raising and lighting of City Hall beginning at 5:55PM. Doors open at 6:00PM for a 6:30PM community film screening of Mike Nichols’ classic The Birdcage under the stars at the Cathedral City Community Amphitheater. In the film starring Robin Williams\, Gene Hackman\, Nathan Lane\, Dianne Wiest and Calista Flockhart\, a gay cabaret owner and his drag queen companion agree to put up a false straight front so that their son can introduce them to his fiancée’s right-wing moralistic parents. The Birdcage screening is free to the public; register for film tickets here. Bars throughout Cathedral City will host LGBT Days specials following the screening and all weekend. \nSaturday’s festivities include a headline comedy show starring River Butcher taking place at the Agave Caliente Terraza\, the outdoor entertainment pavilion at Agua Caliente Casino Cathedral City. Los Angeles-based standup comic\, actor\, and writer Butcher’s first half-hour special “A Different Kind of Dude” debuted on Comedy Central’s YouTube channel and was called “a masterclass in culture war commentary” by Esquire.com. River recently wrote on the FX pilot “Belated\,” previously wrote for “A League of Their Own\,” and created/starred in/wrote the critically acclaimed and GLAAD award-nominated tv show “Take My Wife.” He’s also been on screen as non-binary standup comic Lindsay Brady on “Good Trouble\,” Adam Conover’s sibling on “Adam Ruins Everything” or queer dinner guest Denim in the hit movie “Friendsgiving.”  Butcher’s done standup all over the globe and the screen and was named one of Vanity Fair’s “Ten Comics to Watch” at Montreal’s Just For Laughs/Juste Pour Rire in 2017\, just 6 years after doing his first standup open mic. He’s just recorded his first one-hour special in Portland\, set to be released on YouTube this year. Get tickets here. \nThe weekend concludes on Sunday March 10th with the annual Bed Race and Parade of Beds in front of City Hall starting at 10:00AM\, where thousands of well-wishers line up to cheer on teams running festively decorated beds down Avenue Lalo Guerrero\, competing for prizes and local infamy; admission is free and open to the public. The Bed Race will be emceed by local talent and accompanied by live entertainment.
