DESCRIPTION:Join Councilmember Rita Lamb\, Councilmember Ernesto Gutierrez\, and the Cathedral City Fire Department for an Emergency Preparedness – Grab & Go Event on Saturday June 7th at Agua Caliente Elementary School. \nThis event will provide information on how to respond to an emergency\, such as an earthquake\, and what items you will need in your preparedness kit during and after an emergency. Each household will learn how to make their own emergency kits and why each item was selected for the kit. Free emergency kits will be available while supplies last\, thanks in part to our sponsors Target\, Lowe’s and Home Depot.

Doors open at 9:30 a.m. The film series offers free admission to see a different movie geared towards kids each Friday morning at the Mary Pickford Theatre in Downtown Cathedral City.\n\n\nThe Cathedral City Parks and Community Events Commission will be offering free water and a small popcorn for the first 100 kids at each event during the 8-week period. The total cost for refreshments is $1\,200 for the 8-week series\, with generous sponsorship from Dinner with Patsi covering $800 and the remaining $400 funded through the PACE events budget. \nFree books will be available at every movie donated by the Read With Me Volunteer Programs. A book will also be read by the Cathedral City Library before every movie. \nTickets and Seating \nSeating is limited and residents can pick up free passes at the Cathedral City Library located at 33520 Date Palm Drive. Flyers and tickets will also be distributed during the last week of school and to partner organizations including Desert Arc\, Behavioral Lab\, and the Salvation Army. You may still attempt to go to the film series without a pass\, but you will be placed in a standby line. Once priority pass holders are seated\, those waiting in the standby line will be admitted if seats are still available. \nLast year’s series broke attendance records with 1\,737 kids and parents participating over the 8-week period. \nCommunity Partners \nDinner with Patsi is the presenting sponsor for the 2025 series\, providing major funding support and will receive sponsorship recognition on all promotional materials and at each event. SUMMARY:Amateur Radio “Field Day”
DESCRIPTION:WHAT: Members of the Desert RATS Amateur Radio Club and Coachella Valley Amateur Radio Emergency Service will be participating in the national amateur radio Field Day Event\, June 28 2025 at the Cathedral City Library from 11am to 4pm. Since 1933\, ham radio operators across North America have established temporary ham radio stations in public locations during Field Day to showcase the science and skill of amateur radio. This event is open to the public and all are encouraged to attend. There will be demonstrations of almost every aspect of Ham Radio including voice communication\, digital modes\, antennas\, repeaters\, satellites\, radio propagation\, email without the internet\, and emergency communication. Other community organizations related to emergency preparedness will also be participating. \nWHEN: Saturday\, June 28\, 2025 11am to 4pm \nWHERE: Cathedral City Library\, 33520 Date Palm Dr\, Cathedral City\, CA 92234 \nWHY: Field Day is a showcase for how amateur radio works reliably under any conditions from almost any location to create an independent communications network. “Ham radio functions completely independent of the Internet or cell phone infrastructure\, can interface with laptops or smartphones\, and can be set up almost anywhere in minutes. That’s the beauty of amateur radio during a communications outage\,” said Sierra Harrop\, W5DX\, Public Relations and Outreach Manager for ARRL The National Association for Amateur Radio®\, which represents amateur (or“ham”) radio operators across the country. “In today’s connected world\, ham radio remains one of the best ways for people to learn about electronics\, physics\, meteorology\, and numerous other scientific disciplines\, and is a huge asset to any community during disasters or emergencies if the standard communication infrastructure goes down. Ham radio is also a great sandbox for tomorrow’s technology leaders to get hands-on with STEM concepts\,” Harrop added. \nAnyone may become a licensed amateur radio operator. There are more than 750\,000 licensed hams in the United States\, as young as 9 and as old as 100. And with clubs such as the Desert RATS Radio Club\, it’s easy for anybody to get involved right here in the Coachella Valley.
