Mexican Monument Dedicated in Memory of Mayor Gregory S. Pettis

On Saturday, January 18, 2020, the City of Tequila, Jalisco (Mexico) honored Cathedral City’s late Mayor Gregory S. Pettis with a monument dedication for his commitment to the people of Tequila as part of the twenty-plus year history between the sister cities of Cathedral City and Tequila.  Passed unanimously by the Tequila City Council and supported by the Tequila Rotary Club, the plaque and monument were revealed this past weekend to the applause of many.  The dedication was nearly one year to the day of his passing on January 15, 2019.

Several members of the Cathedral City Evening Rotary, which the former mayor was a member of, traveled down to Tequila for the dedication.

Locally, the City of Cathedral City dedicated the Fountain of Life and the Rainbow Crossing in memory of Mayor Pettis.  The granite used to build the Fountain of Life came from the State of Jalisco for which Tequila resides.  The Rainbow Crossing was dedicated to Mayor Pettis for his lifelong fight for equality and being the first openly gay mayor of Cathedral City.

Mayor Pettis was also instrumental in establishing the Taste of Jalisco Festival that happens on February 8, 2020 in Downtown Cathedral City, www.TasteofJalisco.com.
