Construction Activity – Year in Review

Similar to 2020, development activity flourished in Cathedral City throughout 2021. While single-family home development and residential solar remained active, several commercial and multi-family development projects were welcomed additions to the City.

The new 90,000 square-foot Amazon Hub Center opened this year in the former Sam’s Club building, which had been vacant for more than 15 years, bringing 150 jobs to the City. In addition, the new Tower Market on Date Palm Drive opened its doors to customers and much fanfare in December.

The new 60-unit Veterans Village project and several smaller multi-family projects started construction this year. In addition, new single-family home development remained steady with 149 new home permits issued in 2021.

New residential solar system installations, which has been very active in the City the last few years, remained consistent throughout 2021, finishing with 687 permits for the year, 200 more than in 2020. This year also saw several larger solar installations within our existing mobile home parks.

Finally, construction valuation exceeded $80.5 million this year, which represents the amount of development and construction investment made in the City and shows strong development interest, which we expect to see continue into 2022.
