Helpful Programs for Residents
Free Towing for Cathedral City Residents.
Did you know…the City will tow your wrecked and/or inoperative vehicles for free?
Through the City’s Junk Your Jalopy Program, the Code Compliance Division will remove abandoned, inoperable, wrecked, or dismantled vehicles from private properties. Many times, vehicle owners are not sure what to do with their old car that doesn’t run anymore and will cost too much to fix or tow away. A property owner may have a car left on the property by a family member/friend or former tenant that they do not want on their property.
The City’s Junk Your Jalopy Program can help. Registered owners can release the vehicle to the Code Compliance Division, and we will tow it free of charge. For property owners, we will also tow it for free after notification is provided to the registered vehicle owner.
Please contact us at 760-770-0309 for more information or to request for your vehicle to be towed.

During these drought conditions, we are required to reduce our outdoor water use to twice a week. This puts stress on plants, trees, and grass. It is important that homeowners and residents make sure that grass is maintained so that it doesn’t die or start to get bare spots.
This may be the perfect opportunity for homeowners to take advantage of the City’s Landscape Grant Program. The Program was created to educate, encourage and assist residents with the conversion of their current water-thirsty grass to xeriscape, a lush yet water-efficient landscape in the front yards of residential properties.
Qualifying projects should include the following:
- Removal of grass located in the front yard and replacement with drought tolerant landscaping.
- Removal or relocation of sprinkler system so that it only services turf and drought tolerant planting and does not spill over onto sidewalks or streets.
Residents that qualify will receive a dollar-for-dollar match up to a maximum of $500 per property. To receive reimbursement, you will be required to obtain final approval of the work from the Environmental Conservation Manager and submit receipts. Grants will be awarded to qualified residents on a first come first served basis. If you are interested in participating in the grant program, please e-mail dpressgrove@cathedralcity.gov or call 760.770.0369 for more information.
