Commemorating Veterans Day in Cathedral City

With Veterans Day tomorrow, Nov. 11, 2022, the City of Cathedral City is honoring the men and women who have served and protected us in the U.S. Armed Forces several different ways.

The Rotary Clubs of Cathedral City have organized Fields of Valor (formally known as Healing Fields) through Nov. 12, 2022, at Patriot Park, located at 33998 Date Palm Dr, Cathedral City, CA 92234. This year’s event will be the first year where event organizers will dedicate different sections of the park to honor veterans of conflicts in Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Organizers will also separate flags designated to honor fallen veterans as well as veterans of the Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marines. The Fields of Valor will have a variety of events during the celebration such as an opening ceremony and a closing ceremony on Nov. 5, a live band, both in honor of Veterans Day and in recognition of the 247th birthday of the U.S. Marines on Nov. 11, and some special activities on Nov. 12.

Residents are also invited to Cathedral City’s annual Veterans Day ceremony on Friday, Nov. 11, 2022, at 10 a.m. at Desert Memorial Park, located at 31-705 Da Vall Dr, Cathedral City, CA 92234. This ceremony is being sponsored by American Veterans (AMVETS) Post 6b and the Jon Castro Chapter of Veterans for Peace (VFP). The event is free and open to the public. Vito D. Imbasciani PhD MD, the Secretary of the California Department of Veterans Affairs (CDVA), will be speaking at the event. Imbasciani is the highest-ranking veteran leader in the state and a member of the Governor’s cabinet. An award plaque will be presented to one of the last living World War II veterans, Dorothee Irwin. Irwin, 100, of Palm Springs is one of the first women Marines to serve during the war at Camp Pendleton, California.

Thank you to all our veterans here in Cathedral City and beyond!
