A Look Ahead to 2023 in Cathedral City

My wish for everyone in Cathedral City is for the happiest of holidays. I hope that whatever you observe and celebrate this time of year you can be with those who mean the most to you. The holidays offer us an opportunity to reflect on the years gone by and to look ahead to the years to come. Here is a glimpse of what is to come in Cathedral City in 2023.

Comprehensive City Strategic Plan – The City Council and city staff have embarked on a long-range strategic planning effort that will seek to align Council and staff priorities with priorities of the people of our community. Already three focus groups with people from various communities in our city have been held and a formal survey to gather input on community priorities will be conducted in early January. Council interviews and a staff workshop have been conducted as well. All this input will be combined in 2023 to create the Cathedral City Strategic Plan.

Dream Homes Park – Cathedral City was awarded a grant of $8.5 million dollars from the State of California for a new community park to be located adjacent to the CV Link and the Dream Homes neighborhood. A contract was awarded in 2022 for the formal design of the park and the development of construction plans. In 2023 we look forward to the completion of the design phase and the start of the construction phase of the project.

Special Events – The city’s signature events will be bigger and better than ever in 2023.
  • The first major event of the year will be the popular Taste of Jalisco, which will be held in downtown Cathedral City February 3-5, 2023. The event will feature music, tequila tasting, carnival, artisan vendors, and authentic cuisine celebrating the sister city relationship between the cities of Cathedral City, California (USA) and Tequila, Jalisco, Mexico.
  • Just a month later Cathedral City LGBT Days returns on March 3-5, 2023. As California’s first Pride event of the year, the 7th annual Cathedral City LGBT Days brings together numerous LGBT celebrities, artists, media, community leaders, Coachella Valley residents, and visitors for a weekend of live entertainment, community engagement, and fun activities.
  • Later in the year, the Cathedral City Hot Air Balloon Festival will return November 17-19, 2023.
Date Palm Drive – Road construction projects can be inconvenient while the construction is occurring, but a major paving project will bring a smoother ride to motorists on sections of this major corridor in 2023.

East Palm Canyon commercial development – Plans have been approved for a mixed-use development project on 13.5 acres on East Palm Canyon at Date Palm Drive across the street from the new Agua Caliente Casino. The first phase, featuring commercial development along the East Palm Canyon frontage, should begin construction in 2023.
