The City of Cathedral City Code Compliance Division consists of 9 members with a combined 70+ years of experience. They are each working to uphold the City’s values and serve the community with commitment, pride, and excellence. The City of Cathedral City Code Compliance Division stands as a dedicated guardian of public health, safety, and the overall well-being of our community. At the core of our mission is the commitment to enhancing the quality of life and visual aspects of the city through the administration of fair and unbiased compliance programs. Our approach plays a vital role in reducing visual blight, maintaining property values, and fostering a safe and inclusive environment for all residents.
Enforcing Community Standards:
The Code Compliance Division diligently enforces local laws, codes, and regulations set by the Cathedral City Council, which serve as community standards. By ensuring compliance with these standards, we actively contribute to the reduction of vandalism, crime deterrence, and the prevention of neighborhood deterioration. Voluntary compliance is our primary goal, and we actively engage with citizens and neighborhood groups to provide public education on city code requirements.

Discovering and Addressing Violations:
Violations are identified through several methods, including being proactively opened by Code Officers, citizen complaints, and referrals from other agencies such as the Fire and Police departments. Upon discovery, the responsible party and/or property owners receive a notice, providing a reasonable timeframe for correction. Follow-up inspections are conducted to assess compliance. Emphasis is placed on voluntary compliance, but if it is not achieved, citations may be issued. The citation type, civil or criminal, depends on the circumstances and severity of the violation.

Focusing on Voluntary Compliance:
Our process encourages voluntary compliance, and responsible parties and/or property owners failing to comply within the given time frames may request an Extension Request Form from their assigned Code Compliance Officer. For civil citations, fines may range from $100 to $500, depending on the violation and repetition. Criminal citations, treated as infractions, carry fines, and require an arraignment. Our emphasis on voluntary compliance reflects our commitment to working collaboratively with the community to maintain a clean, safe, and desirable living environment.

Citizen Involvement:
We actively encourage citizen involvement in identifying and reporting code violations. Our dedicated team is here to assist and provide information. Residents can conveniently report suspected code violations through our online complaint form or the MyCathedralCity Mobile App. By working together, we can eliminate conditions contributing to blight, ensuring a cleaner, safer, and more desirable place for all current and potential Cathedral City residents.

In conclusion, the City of Cathedral City Code Compliance Division is not just an enforcer of rules but a partner in the community's well-being. Through our fair and unbiased compliance program, we aim to create a city that thrives in quality of life and visual appeal, where residents feel safe, proud, and connected.
