Issue 429
Despite being the middle of winter, development within Cathedral City is heating up! Date Palm Drive is seeing major changes. The recent paving project between Dinah Shore and Ramon Road is finally complete. Smooth roads and beautiful asphalt are a welcoming sign for residents and visitors alike. Further improvements currently underway along Date Palm Drive include replacing the asphalt-based 30th and Date Palm Drive intersection with concrete. This improvement will make for a smoother and longer-lasting intersection. Just south of 30th and after years of work, the Golden Mile Shopping Center is being revitalized.

Voted America’s favorite restaurant chain, Cathedral City residents and visitors are enjoying the recently opened The Habit Burger Grill. Featuring made-to-order gourmet hamburgers, sandwiches, and salads, The Habit’s diverse menu allows dinners to enjoy affordably priced and quality ingredients in an upscale yet casual environment.

If great tasty chicken is your thing, the soon-to-be-open Dave’s Hot Chicken, tenders, sliders, and fries are on the way. “Three guys in an East Hollywood parking lot, who started with $900, and a dream of our own” have built what has become one of America’s fastest-growing fried chicken franchises with an edgy urban feel. With seven levels of hot chicken spice ranging from “no spice” to “reaper”, there is a spice level for all palates.

Also on Date Palm Drive, your Economic Development and Development Services Departments are working with several developers to attract a large-scale multifamily housing project, a self-storage facility, and a grocery store. While each of these projects are in the preliminary design and entitlement stages, staff is working hard to address developer needs while elevating architectural design and layout standards. If these projects come to fruition, each of these assets will be great additions to the community.

At the south end of Date Palm Drive, Fountainhead Development is making big strides. The Phase 1 portion of the commercial development will include a standalone Starbucks, Chipotle, Farmer Boys, and Circle K convenience store and fuel station. A 6,000-square-foot building located between Starbucks and Chipotle will house two to four additional retail businesses. Fountainhead has several retailers interested in the in-line space and is looking for one or two more tenants before vertical construction on this building will begin.

Horizontal site work on the five-acre commercial parcel, which includes grading, installing utilities, and paving, is well underway. Road improvements along the south side of East Palm Canyon have begun and building foundations are being set. While construction completion depends on many factors beyond developer control, Fountainhead believes the entire five-acre site will be finished this year with stores opening in early 2025.

Fountainhead and your City’s Economic Development Department are working to attract additional retailers for a future commercial phase 2 (located along East Palm Canyon between Allen Ave and Van Fleet). Fountainhead and Economic Development are also working to attract a possible hotel development and residential project for the balance of the site.

To stay on top of Economic Development activities, please bookmark www.ccedd.org. You can always strengthen our City’s economic future by shopping local. Shopping at our businesses will help our retailers thrive, improve the quality of future retail opportunities, and keep your vitally needed tax dollars within the City. Your tax dollars fund critical services such as Police, Fire, and road maintenance. There is no better way to attract new businesses than to ensure our existing businesses are prosperous.

Lastly, your efforts to keep your properties clean, weed, and debris-free are paying off. Property appearance is an important selling point when prospective homebuyers, business owners, and developers look for a perfect location. Everyone is a part of Cathedral City's long-term success, and you are making a difference!
