More Parks Improvements Coming Your Way

City Council has taken important steps recently to improve two Cathedral City Parks, which will result in better amenities and better experiences for those who use our parks.

On August 24, 2022, the City Council approved an allocation of about $300,000 for improvements to Century Park. The improvements to be constructed will include the repair and replacement of the playground equipment, the repair of the playground's soft surface, and the installation of a shade structure over the playground equipment. Additionally, the project will replace the roofing on the picnic ramada structures. New replacement picnic tables, benches, and barbeque grills will also be installed.

On October 26, 2022, the City Council approved the expenditure of about $250,000 for improvements to Panorama Park. The improvements to be constructed will include the installation of shade covers over the two playgrounds at the park. The City will install two (2) super span pyramid multi-level multi-panel shade structures over the play equipment for both playgrounds at Panorama Park. These are proposed to be the same style currently located over the children’s play equipment at Ocotillo Park. The advantages of the multi-level, multi-panel shade structure include the aesthetics and the maintenance-friendly design. If vandalism or deterioration of a single shade panel occurs in the future, the City will only be replacing the specific panel and not the entire shade covering.

Additionally, the project will provide patch repairs and a refresh of the playground's soft surface. Finally, replacement picnic tables, benches, and barbeque grills will be installed to replace existing items that have reached the end of their useful life. The proposed new replacement picnic tables and benches are made from recycled materials and are of the same type and style as the tables and benches currently located at Century and Panorama Park. The new tables and benches will be installed within the next 90 days. The installation of the shade structures and the repairs to the soft surface are expected to be completed by the end of February 2023.
