Community Update by George Crum, Cathedral City Chief of Police
Fireworks are a traditional part of America’s 4th of July celebration, yet every year people take needless risks when they celebrate. Please remember that all fireworks are illegal in Cathedral City and can be dangerous. Even fireworks and sparklers deemed "Safe and Sane” are illegal in Cathedral City and can be harmful and often result in serious burns, hearing loss and other injuries. Those who use, possess, store, or transport any type of fireworks in Cathedral City may be subject to criminal prosecution - or worse yet, a painful and/or debilitating injury. It is simply not worth it!
Fireworks jeopardize the health and welfare of those around us including veterans suffering from PTSD, neighbors, friends, and pets. Again, for the safety of our entire community do not use fireworks of any kind in Cathedral City. The Police Department, Fire Department and residents of this city have expressed the seriousness of this matter. The Police Department will deploy additional officers throughout the holiday weekend to enforce the laws related to the possession, transportation, storage, or use of fireworks within the city limits. If you see someone shooting off fireworks or possessing fireworks, please call the Cathedral City Police Department’s non-emergency number at (760) 770-0300. If it is an emergency, please call 9-1-1.

So how can you celebrate the holiday safely? Attend a public firework display put on by trained professionals. Click on the link to locate fireworks shows being hosted in Coachella Valley.
