Community Update
by Dr. Stone James, Economic Development Director

I don’t know about you, but I love a good challenge! From tackling a new book, new exercise program (Indian Wells Ironman 70.3, here I come), or creating memorable evenings out on the town, we have so many options. My wife Laura and I recently challenged ourselves. We asked, how many fun day activities or evenings out can we create? To begin, we needed a list of various Cathedral City events, restaurants, and other resources. Thankfully, the Cathedral City Chamber of Commerce and Cathedral City Communications Department makes this easy!

The Cathedral City Chamber maintains a list of Cathedral City businesses (and some surrounding businesses) on the Cathedral City Shop Local website (www.ccshoplocal.com). From www.ccshoplocal.com, we perused the fabulous restaurants within Cathedral City, were reminded of incredible local assets like CV Repertory Theatre, the Mary Pickford Movie Theatre, and rediscovered a few local luxurious Cathedral City hotels (if we wanted to plan a stay-cation).

The recently revamped www.DiscoveryCatherdralCity.com website offers an abundance of ideas, calendar of events, and other update-to-date city news. Together, these two resources helped us plan over a dozen events (a dinner and a movie, a performance followed by cocktails, a day at a hotel pool, a tour of the City’s best Mexican food restaurants, a fabulous Italian dinner, a little retail therapy, a morning hike followed by an incredible breakfast, catching the big game at Cathedral City sports bars, and a meal at old school diners, just to name a few).

We would love to hear your creative fun combinations, email our Communications & Events Manager Ryan Hunt, message us on the City’s Facebook page, post on our City’s Instagram.
As I have said before, shopping local is the best way to attract new businesses and improve existing businesses, roads, and city services. You literally can improve our roadways and improve City services by keeping as much of your daily shopping dollars within Cathedral City limits. www.ccshoplocal.com is a great way to identify Cathedral City-based businesses. A simple Google or Yelp search is another way to identify Cathedral City businesses which need your support.

Attracting new investment is also accomplished by keeping our properties clean, weed, and debris-free. Property appearance is an important selling point when prospective investors are looking for the perfect location. Everyone is a part of Cathedral City's long-term success, and your efforts are helping elevate Cathedral City to new levels. To stay on top of Economic Development activities and information, please bookmark www.ccedd.org. Remember, economic development is the “programs, policies and activities that seek to improve the economic well-being and quality of life for a community, by creating and retaining jobs, and providing a stable tax base”. The Economic Development Department appreciates you doing your part to support our great city!
