As temperatures rise, it's essential to stay informed and take proactive steps to stay cool and healthy. In this issue of "Beat the Heat," we'll explore the various types of heat-related illnesses, provide hydration tips, and emphasize the importance of sunscreen for sun safety.

Types of Heart-Related Illnesses:
Know the Signs

• Heat Cramps: Painful muscle spasms usually caused by dehydration and electrolyte imbalances. Symptoms include muscle cramps, sweating, and fatigue.
|

• Heat Exhaustion: Occurs when the body overheats due to prolonged exposure to high temperatures and inadequate hydration. Symptoms include heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, nausea, and headache.
|

• Heat Stroke: A life-threatening condition where the body's temperature regulation system fails, leading to extremely high body temperature. Symptoms include confusion, rapid heartbeat, unconsciousness, and hot, dry skin.

Hydration Tips: Stay Cool and Hydrated

• Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you're not feeling thirsty.
|

• Avoid sugary and caffeinated beverages, as they can contribute to dehydration.
