Cathedral City Cone Zone Alert: Spring 2023 Pavement Maintenance Program

To help make commuters travels through Cathedral City easier and safer, the City’s Engineering Department is detailing the Spring of 2023 Pavement Maintenance Program, set to begin in April.

The City effectively uses Rubberized Emulsion Aggregate Slurry (REAS) as the primary pavement maintenance surface treatment to preserve the asphalt on public streets. “REAS” is a roadway treatment that has proven effective due to its durability, longevity, and the added benefit of dampening roadway tire noise (understandably since REAS is made from crumb rubber and recycled tires). The Project areas and schedule are as follows:

  • La Pasada Neighborhood: The REAS application in the La Pasada Neighborhood is scheduled to begin on April 11, 2023, commencing on April 25, 2023. A map of the streets that will receive REAS is shown below.

  • Avenida Maravilla, Avenida La Paz, and Avenida La Vista: The REAS application on Avenida Maravilla, Avenida La Paz, and Avenida La Vista is scheduled to being on April 13, 2023, commencing on April 19, 2023 Maps of the Project area with the roadway sections designated are below.

  • Date Palm Drive (I-10 Interchange to Varner Road): The REAS application on Date Palm Drive is scheduled to take place from April 26 – April 27, 2023. A Map of the Project area is shown below.

For staff to complete these projects we will need to work together with residents and visitors. If you live in one of the areas where this work is scheduled, you will be experience some inconvenience when construction is underway on your street. Our crews will work to limit this as best they can. There will be a period and/or periods of time that you will not be able to drive on your street. Street signage and door hangers will be placed seventy-two.(72) hours in advance of all work so that you are notified of upcoming work, parking, and street access limitations.

  • WARNING: At times there will be dirt roadways, noise, vibration, smell and/or workers along your frontages within the right of In addition, your street parking may be limited, access to your street and/or driveway may be impaired. In order for the Contractor to complete the roadway work, these instances will predictably occur.
  • TEAMWORK: This is a part of the roadway work that you, as the recipient of the newly rehabilitated street, will have to participate Thus, I am asking that you be part of the team and understand the inconveniences, be patient and look forward to a newly rehabilitated street.
  • EMERGENCY ACCESS: The Contractor and the City’s First Responders (Police and Fire) will always work hand in hand to provide emergency access.

Please be extra diligent in construction zones, observe the signs, drive within the posted speed limits and overall, be safe.
