Cathedral City Councilmembers Honor the Victims of Orlando

Cathedral City was well represented at the Candlelight March for Orlando on Thursday evening in Palm Springs. More than 300 people participated in the march that started at Francis Stevens Park to Arenas Road and back.

At the pre-march rally, Mayor Pro Tem Greg Pettis spoke about the importance of honoring the victims of the deadliest U.S. mass shooting as well as the need to change our laws to eliminate the probability of assault weapons being used again. Councilmember John Aguilar assisted in reading the names of the 49 victims, one by one, as a balloon was released for each casualty. Councilmember Shelley Kaplan joined the two councilmembers along with the other attendees including Palm Springs Mayor Rob Moon as they marched down Palm Canyon Drive through VillageFest. Onlookers shared their appreciation and support.

Mayor Stan Henry and Councilmember Mark Carnevale offered their support and condolences; however, scheduling conflicts prevented them from attending the march.
