Cathedral City Public Arts Commissioner Sue Townsley Honored as “Outstanding Fundraising Volunteer”

On Friday, November 6, 2020, the Chair of the Cathedral City Public Arts Commission, Sue Townsley, was honored as the “Outstanding Fundraising Volunteer” by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Desert Cities Chapter.  The award was presented virtually this year on National Philanthropy Day and Livestreamed by KESQ.

A small group of supporters shared the moment with Sue Townsley at the epicenter of her fundraising efforts, the Cathedral City Senior Center.  Nominated by former Executive Director Bob McKechnie and wholeheartedly supported by the new Executive Director Geoff Corbin of the Cathedral City Senior Center, Sue was recognized for donating significant time, effort, and her home to help raise tens of thousands of dollars for this invaluable destination and resource for our local seniors.  Sharing her praises included Councilmember Mark Carnevale, Councilmember-elect Nancy Ross, Communications / Events Manager Chris Parman, Economic Development Director Stone James, and former Chair of the Public Arts Commission Alan Carvalho along with others involved in the senior center operations.

Beyond her volunteer work for the senior center, Sue has also been involved with the Boys and Girls Club of Cathedral City, the American Jazz Institute, and every Cathedral City festival from the Tejano Music Fest to the Cathedral City Hot Air Balloon Festival, to Taste of Jalisco, to LGBT Days, and so many more.

The City of Cathedral City congratulates Sue Townsley for her outstanding service to our community and being recognized for this prestigious award.
