The City of Cathedral City is encouraging residents to take a short, anonymous survey that will help shape how Riverside County and local communities prepare for and reduce the impacts of future disasters.
Riverside County and its participating jurisdictions, including Cathedral City, are updating the Multi-Jurisdictional Local Hazard Mitigation Plan. The plan is updated every five years and identifies the natural hazards that threaten our communities, such as earthquakes, flooding, extreme heat, wildfire and wind, along with projects and strategies to reduce their impact. Having an approved plan also keeps Cathedral City eligible for certain federal hazard mitigation funding.
The Public Hazard Mitigation Survey asks residents about their experiences with natural disasters, the hazards that concern them most, how they prefer to receive emergency information and whether their household has a disaster plan. Responses will help the County and City set priorities and improve preparedness for every neighborhood.
“Tropical Storm Hilary showed us how quickly a disaster can affect our neighborhoods, and the lessons from that storm continue to guide our preparation,” said Cathedral City Fire Chief Michael Contreras. “Hearing directly from residents about their concerns and experiences helps us plan for the hazards that matter most to our community. I encourage everyone to take a few minutes to complete the survey.”
Cathedral City Fire & EMS serves as the City’s lead on the hazard mitigation plan update, in coordination with the Riverside County Emergency Management Department.
