Cathedral City Storytime Features “Chrysanthemum”

Councilmember Rita Lamb wishes everyone a great start of the 2021-22 school year.  In continuance of her public service, she reminds parents the importance of reading to children for their bright futures. In so doing, Councilmember Lamb reads, “Chrysanthemum” by Kevin Henkes.

This story portrays an elementary student who enters school for the first time loving her name, Chrysanthemum.  She soon discovers that her name is the cause of her classmates making fun of her.  This teasing lowers her confidence and morale.  All that changes with the input of a musical teacher who is admired by her classmates.

“Chrysanthemum” reads well for children in grades K-3. Enjoy!
