Cathedral City’s First Elected Mayor Robert “Bob” Hillery Has Passed Away

Mayor Stan Henry has been informed that Cathedral City’s first elected Mayor Robert “Bob” Hillery passed away this morning, he was 89 years old.

The Honorable Hillery served on the City Council from 1986 to 1992. He was elected mayor in 1990 and served one term until 1992. Back in 2015, he wrote a book about the City’s history called, “”Cathedral City, The Early Years: 1925 to 1981.”

According to a story in the Desert Sun, former Mayor Hillery graduated from Palm Spring High in 1947, received his bachelor’s degree in business from San Diego State University in 1951 and entered the U.S. Army the same year.

“The entire City Council is saddened to learn of his passing, but we are mindful of his valiant service he provided to our city,” stated current Mayor Stan Henry. “We extend our deepest sympathy to his wife, Kay, his family and friends and we hope that the fond memories of his life bring comfort during this difficult time.”

Cathedral City has lowered its City flag to half-mast in his memory.
